The discussions were held as part of Dubai Trade’s ongoing customer outreach and service programme initiated to obtain feedback on its various online services and appraise the specific needs of the client to enhance offerings in order to help improve trade flow.

The talks were attended by Mahmood Al Bastaki, Director, Dubai Trade, senior officials representing DP World and Dubai Customs, Tom Nauwelaerts, Managing Director, Al-Futtaim Logistics, and other senior Al Futtaim Logistics officials, at the company’s headquarters in Jebel Ali Free Zone.

The discussions covered all areas of services provided by Dubai Trade that facilitate direct online transactions between the Dubai World flagship companies and Al Futtaim Logistics. Over the last 30 years, Al-Futtaim Group has developed to be one of the country’s most prominent supply chain service providers, servicing both Al-Futtaim Group companies as well as large 3rd party and other customers.

Mahmood Al Bastaki, Director, Dubai Trade, said: “Al Futtaim Logistics is among our most respected customers who use the Dubai Trade portal for high-volume, multifaceted transactions as part of their daily dealings with Jafza, DP World and Dubai Customs. This exercise is a way to maintain a constant dialogue with our customers to understand their complex and constantly changing business requirements which enable us to better accommodate the growth of their businesses. We have always aimed to develop the Dubai Trade platform with superior services and easy-to-use interactive channels in line with the requirements of customers. In addition, we are also exploring options and strategic alliances with other government departments to create a more satisfying customer experience.”

Tom Nauwelaerts, Managing Director for Al Futtaim Logistics, said: “Dubai Trade is playing a pivotal role in empowering the trading community with innovative tools for e-commerce. Al Futtaim Logistics is particularly encouraged by the service provider management’s proactive approach to ensure that the portal’s development keeps pace with the needs of companies like ours. The supply chain industry in Dubai is the most efficient in the region and we believe Dubai Trade’s outreach programme for its customers will contribute positively towards maintaining that leading position.”

The talks also touched on issues such as port and free zone storage, clearance facilities and customs processes, as well as the impact of the Dubai Logistics Corridor on business in the future. The Corridor, linking Jebel Ali port and free zone to the Dubai World Central-Al Maktoum International Airport, is an enormous collaborative effort to boost Dubai’s redistribution capabilities and its status as the Middle East’s largest and the most efficient trading hub.
